The Recreation Division;

o Organizes programming for youth, teens, adults, and active adults. Programming includes sports (clinics and leagues), dance, martial art/self-defense, fitness, music, art, gymnastics, nature-focused, camps, and aquatics.

Operates out of William R. Talley Recreation Center, Trinity Recreation Center, Lincoln Elementary Recreation Center, TJ Middle Recreation Center, Whittier Recreation Center, and Butterfly Ridge Recreation Center. Programs are also held within our park system and contracted program facilities.

o Manages 2 swimming pools, the Edward P. Thomas Pool located in Baker Park and William R. Diggs Pool located in Mullinix Park.

o Division office (William R. Talley Recreation Center) handles reservations of recreation center rentals, pavilions, Baker Park, and Carroll Creek Linear Park.

o Organizes special events which include Family Movie Night in the Park, It’s the Great Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt, Cookies and Cocoa with Santa, Baker Park Egg-Stravaganza, and Park Cleanup events

Registration Details

Program Refunds

Request for refunds due to withdrawal from a program must be made in writing to the respective Recreation Supervisor and must be received no later than five Business Days before the start of the program (unless stated otherwise for a program). A $5 processing fee will be charged for all refunds. After the established refund deadline, no refunds will be issued except in cases of a medical emergency, in which the participant must submit a letter and doctor’s note to the Recreation Supervisor within 4 weeks of the class starting date.

Private Lessons

24-hour notice for private lessons or a full charge will occur.

Returned checks

A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for non-payment.

Program Cancellations

May take place due to insufficient registration, school conflicts, and/or closings (holidays, inclement weather, emergencies, etc.). In the event of inclement weather, call 301-600-6972. Efforts will be made to email all participants. If a program/class is canceled due to the weather every effort will be made to reschedule the missed class. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules.

Participate Conduct

Participants are to refer to the Parks and Recreation Discipline Policy. Program-specific rules may apply and can be obtained through the Program Coordinator and/or Supervisor of Recreation.
