Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

About GIS

A Geographic Information System, or GIS, is comprised of hardware, software, and data that work together to allow for collection, maintenance, display, and distribution of geographic data. GIS allows people to better understand very large and complex datasets - making decisions based on the analysis and visualization of this data.

Having a reliable central repository for geographic information improves efficiency of government and helps to ensure that informed decisions are made. ESRI is the leading provider of professional GIS software, you can visit their website to learn more about GIS.
